Road Diaries: From Classic Steel to EV Tech – Our Week Across the Northshore

Category: Weekly Recap | Date: April 26, 2026 | Estimated Read Time: 6 minutes

There is no such thing as a "standard" week here at Auto Mancy LLC. One day we’re knee-deep in the futuristic wiring of an electric vehicle in Mandeville, and the next, we’re tuning up a piece of American history that’s older than most of our team.

Our mission is simple: we bring the full-service shop expertise directly to your driveway, workplace, or wherever you happen to be. This past week: from April 19 to April 26: we covered a lot of ground across Hammond, Mandeville, Franklinton, Covington, and Pine Grove.

If you’ve ever wondered what it looks like when the shop comes to you, here is a look behind the scenes at some of the puzzles we solved this week.

High-Tech Troubleshooting: The BMW i3 in Mandeville

Electric vehicles (EVs) are often touted as maintenance-free, but they still rely on traditional electrical components to keep the high-voltage system happy. We headed out to Mandeville to assist a customer with a 2018 BMW i3 that was throwing a variety of confusing electrical codes.

After a thorough electrical diagnostic, we traced the issue back to a cross-threaded 12v battery terminal. It sounds like a small detail, but in an EV, a loose or poorly seated terminal can cause communication errors across the entire vehicle network. We carefully repaired the terminal threads and replaced the 12v battery, ensuring a rock-solid connection. It’s a great example of how even the most advanced cars on the road still need a mechanic who pays attention to the small stuff.

Dealership-Level Transmission Work in a Driveway

One of the biggest myths in the automotive world is that "major" repairs require a brick-and-mortar shop. We dispelled that myth again this week in the Covington area while working on a 2018 Ford F-150.

This truck was suffering from the classic symptoms of a 10R80 transmission valve body failure: harsh 2–3 shifts and unpredictable clunking when slowing down. These transmissions are incredibly complex, and when the internal valves start to wear or the solenoids fail, the driving experience goes downhill fast.

Instead of the customer having to pay for an expensive tow and wait days at a dealership, we performed the full valve body replacement right on their pavement. We used professional-grade diagnostic tools to program the new unit, getting the truck back to its smooth-shifting self before dinner time.

The Little Details That Save Engines: A Lexus Story

Over in Covington, we performed a pro bono follow-up for a Lexus RX350. We had recently completed a major transmission swap on this vehicle, and Michael wanted to make sure every single component was performing exactly as it should.

During the AWD gearbox and front differential flush, we took a moment to double-check the routing of all hoses and brackets. Our technician shared a story about how a previous repair on another vehicle, not affiliated with us, had once overlooked a tiny mounting bracket. That kind of missed detail can allow a hose to rub against a moving part and eventually cause major damage.

At Auto Mancy LLC, we believe that professional auto repair is about more than just swapping parts; it’s about the obsessive attention to detail that prevents future breakdowns. We’re happy to report the Lexus is in pristine condition and ready for the miles ahead.

Classic Corner: Where Chrome Meets Care

The Northshore has some of the most beautiful vintage cars in Louisiana, and we love getting the call to keep them running. This week was a treat for the classic car enthusiasts on our team.

In the Covington/Mandeville area, we spent some time with a gorgeous '57 Chevy. The owner was having trouble getting it to fire up consistently, which we traced back to a faulty neutral safety switch: a crucial safety component that ensures the car only starts in "Park" or "Neutral."

We also had the pleasure of working on a classic Checker Cab. These workhorses are famous for their durability, but they still need a little love. We performed a full carburetor cleaning and tune-up, listening to that engine find its rhythm again. There’s a certain magic in working on "classic steel," and we take great pride in preserving that vintage appeal for our local collectors.

Heavy Duty Maintenance in Franklinton and Pine Grove

Not every job is a "mystery" to be solved; some are just hard, honest work. In Franklinton, we tackled a wheel bearing replacement on a 2013 Honda CR-V. Unlike some vehicles where the bearing is a simple bolt-on unit, this one had to be pressed into the knuckle.

Most people assume you need a 20-ton stationary shop press for this, but we carry specialized mobile pressing tools that allow us to perform this high-pressure work on-site. By not removing the entire spindle and taking it to a machine shop, we saved the customer hours of downtime.

Meanwhile, in Pine Grove, we visited a local resident to perform a full brake and rotor service on a 2014 Honda Accord. Keeping your braking system in top shape is the most important thing you can do for your family's safety. If you’ve noticed a squeak or a pulse in your pedal, don’t wait: book your inspection now before a small pad replacement turns into a more expensive rotor repair.

Customer Diagnostics and Sunday Emergencies

Our week also included a charging system diagnostic for a 2023 Ford Transit in Covington. This was a standard customer call, and the issue needed immediate attention before it turned into a no-start situation. We tracked down the charging concern on-site and helped the customer get a clear picture of what the van needed next.

That kind of call is a good reminder of what mobile service is really about. We stay ready when something urgent comes up, but we also understand that life happens on your side too. Sometimes a repair needs immediate attention, and sometimes a customer has their own unexpected situation that changes the plan. Either way, we stay flexible and work with you to keep the process as smooth and stress-free as possible.

Why Choose Mobile?

This week perfectly illustrated the Auto Mancy LLC advantage. Whether it’s a modern EV, a heavy-duty truck, or a classic cab, we provide the same level of expertise you’d expect from a high-end shop, without the inconvenience.

  • Convenience: We work while you’re in your office or relaxing at home.
  • Transparency: You can see exactly what we’re doing and why we’re doing it.
  • Expertise: From 10-speed transmissions to vintage carburetors, we have the tools and the talent.

If you’re tired of the "traditional" shop experience: the long waits, the Uber rides, and the lack of communication: it might be time to see why your neighbors across the Northshore are making the switch.
